On the Run 57: Twelves - The Twelfth Hour

A dupla carioca lança sua terceira mixtape (depois dos 30 Minutes of Twelves e do Episode II) e segue nos mesmos trilhos que a consagrou: o tom geral fica entre o synthpop e a nu-disco, mas com ouvidos atentos aos hits conhecidos pela maioria das pessoas. Assim, o set desce macio e suave, perfeito para esse frio súbito desse início de primavera. Vi lá no Bloody Pop.

On the Run 51: Avalanches - After the Goldrush

Vamo começar a semana espantando esse frio - pelo menos do cérebro. Enquanto vou escolhendo as músicas pro Vida Fodona de hoje, chovem mixtapes. Vamos começar por essa obra-prima dos Avalanches, que eram do tempo em que se chamava mashup de bootleg ou bastard pop e que a preservação dos direitos autorais do século 20 ainda era motivo de preocupação para os novíssimos players do século 21 (lembro dos caras comemorando o fato da Madonna ter permitido usar o baixo - infelizmente não a música toda - de “Into the Groove” “Holiday” em sua estreia em disco, Since I Left You, o melhor disco de 2001 e, com certeza, um dos pilares da década atual. Mas desde este primeiro disco, o grupo australiano de DJs não lançou mais nada oficialmente, nos deixando nas mãos de heróicos “piratas” digitais que nos trazem tesouros como esse After the Goldrush - um DJ set do ano passado que eu só vi passando por aqui agora… Dava pra falar horas sobre essa seqüência de músicas (especialmente pra enfatizar o fato de um dos melhores “lançamentos” de 2009 ser uma mixtape do ano passado, haha), mas espere os caras engatarem Queen, “Sandwiches”, Daft Punk e Hall & Oates enfileirados - ou deixa eles transformarem uma pérola esquecida dos Beach Boys com um hit dos Chemical Brothers. Nota 10.

Cinco minutos de Twelves

Que coisa fina esse minimix que os Twelves fizeram pro programa da Annie Mac na BBC, descolado pelo Too Many Sebastian. Os caras têm um senhor bom gosto na escolha das faixas (”Boyz”, “Must Be the Moon”, Franz novo, Mr. Oizo, “Sensual Seduction”, Chromeo, “Da Funk”, Metronomy, Tiga) e uma técnica de mixagem que é ao mesmo tempo discreta e precisa, e quando enfileiram 22 faixas em cinco minutos fazem uma mistura de exibicionismo de microsamples ao mesmo tempo em que mashupam todos com todos. Nota 10.

Lily Allen x Soulwax?

Tem gente que acha Lily Allen besta, eu gosto - é o tipo de som que deveria estar tocando no rádio, pop que agrada as pessoas sem agredir a inteligência e que independe da geração ou gênero favorito do ouvinte. Desde que ela começou seu relacionamento com o Chemical Brother Ed Simons (a saber: ela engravidou e depois abortou, eles se separaram, voltaram e vão morar juntos) passou a flertar com a música eletrônica e lançar umas músicas bem boas - e bem diferentes do clima ensolarado de seu primeiro disco. E, no meio de uma entrevista para o blog francês Fluo Kids, ela mostra que só começou nesse novo metiê:

On the Run 32: DJ Yoda Fabric Live 39

Yoda quebrou tudo no show de ontem no Timfa, então segue um consolo pra quem não esteve por lá - é o trigésimo nono lançamento das coletâneas da Fabric. Não serve como lembrança para quem foi para os que estiveram lá porque o set aí embaixo é mais centrado em hip hop (enquanto o que ele fez aqui foi pros lados da soul music e do funk carioca) e tem menos da avalanche de mashup - até porque, diferente da apresentação ao vivo, aqui ele não tem o suporte vídeo. Mas quando a discotecagem do sujeito começa com Violent Femmes e termina com Wiley (misturando Ice Cube, Bonde do Rolê, Run DMC, Chemical Brothers, Salt N Pepa, Coral, Minnie Ripperton e Handsome Boy Modelling School, dá pra saber que não tem muito mistério.

Chemical Management

E falando em Chemical Brothers, essa semana rolou um boato que a dupla produziria o próximo disco do MGMT, dando origem a especulações sobre o que aconteceria caso duas vertentes tão díspares da psicodelia atual colidissem. Mas, os próprios MGMT avisaram, era só um boato - embora não tenham descartado uma parceria com os irmãos químicos. Aê!

Google Earth Brothers 2.0

Os Chemical Brothers estão com outra coletânea na praça chamada de Brotherhood. A graça da nova compilação, que manda um aceno para o New Order no título, é reunir todas as “Electronic Battle Weapons” em um mesmo volume. Pra quem não sabe, “EBW” é o nome de trabalho de várias faixas do grupo desde 1996, que lançam versões cruas das músicas novas em singles sem rótulo para DJs tocarem na pista. Além delas, a coleta ainda conta com duas inéditas: “Keep My Composure”, parceria da dupla com o MC Spank Rock, e “Midnight Madness”, cujo vídeo foi feito em parceria com os fãs, que mandaram vídeos de onde estavam sinalizando via Google Earth.

Como no clipe não coube todo mundo, eles fizeram uma versão completa, junto com o programa do Google, em que você pode ver todo o material que foi aprovado pela dupla. Tá no site deles.
