Que tal começar a semana comigo? Foi ao ar ontem no programa que o Rock’n'Beats tem na rádio do site da MTV (ufa!), um setzinho que fiz pra eles – é uma espécie de best-of do Vida Fodona, pra quem acompanha, nada de novo – só o filé. Falando no Chromeo, no papo que tive com eles, Dave citou como o título do próximo disco do Chromeo reforça a identidade musical que escolheram para eles mesmos – de celebrar os anos 80 sem a ironia dos anos 90, festejando aquele princípio de sofisticação artificial que ensinou uma geração inteira a ser adulta.

O disco chama-se Business Casual e é o traje executivo casual que passou a dominar os anos 80 à medida em que a geração yuppie ganhava dinheiro e, antes dos trinta, brincava de ser milionário.

Isso impregnou-se no imaginário de tal forma e criou uma cultura sintética, eletrônica, clean e infame.

É o oposto da estética trash 80s, um conceito que tem a ver com uma lógica oitentista que eu e o Luciano aplicamos à Gente Bonita desde o início. Brincávamos que iríamos comprar um Gol GTi só para chegar nas festas. Eu até já tinha falado disso no ano passado, citando o Cavaleiro das Trevas do Frank Miller com as trilhas sonoras dos filmes do John Carpenter (feitas por ele mesmo).

Dave disse que essa estética guia o Chromeo desde o início – a começar pelo mashup de Chrome com Romeo que batiza a dupla – e que os dois sempre colocaram essa dicotomia entre o “business” e o “casual” como referência sonora da banda, citando o personagem de Don Johnson no seriado Miami Vice como ícone do que tipo de som que eles querem ter.

Eu mesmo me amarro nesse tipo de som, esse soul branco meio bregoso, de baixo emborrachado, bateria cheia de agudos, solos de sax e esse look de playboy desenhado pelo Angeli. Era o que tocava no rádio quando eu era moleque, culpe a geração, mas não me envergonho de gostar disso não…
