Em In Time, filme novo do neo-zelandêns Andrew Niccol (de Gattaca), tempo é o novo dinheiro – e Justin Timberlake é o personagem principal. Parece massa, seguindo a média do diretor (que escreveu Truman Show, do Peter Weir, e O Terminal, do Spielberg), de volta à ficção científica depois do mico S1m0ne e de ter se recuperado com o ótimo Senhor das Armas, com o Nicolas Cage.
Nesse fim de semana tem o último episódio dessa temporada do Saturday Night Live. Sim, com os dois.

O MP3 e ‘A Rede Social’
O dilema digital para as massas
A Rede Social, novo filme de David Fincher (o mesmo diretor de Clube da Luta e Zodíaco), conta a história de como o site Facebook foi criado – e entra em seu terceiro fim de semana de exibição nos EUA correndo o risco de manter-se como líder das bilheterias desde sua estreia. O resultado pode surpreender quem crê que, para ter um bom desempenho comercial na telona, basta adaptar uma história em quadrinhos, enchê-la de efeitos especiais e exibi-la em 3D.
A Rede Social não tem nada disso: dispõe-se a contar como um gênio antissocial inventou uma ferramenta de socialização digital que tornou-se o maior site do mundo. Denso, frio e devagar quase parando, o filme é o oposto do que se espera de um sucesso hollywoodiano, mas o nome dos envolvidos ajuda a entender o porquê do sucesso – além de Fincher, o filme é escrito pelo mesmo Aaron Sorkin da série West Wing e protagonizado pelos novos galãs Jesse Eisenberg e Andrew Garfield (que fará o novo Homem-Aranha), além do cantor pop Justin Timberlake.
E Justin é o assunto da coluna de hoje. Nem preciso entrar nos méritos de sua atuação (que é boa, mesmo que ele venha da música e não do cinema), mas sim no personagem vivido pelo popstar em A Rede Social. Ele faz as vezes de Sean Parker, cofundador do Napster, o software de compartilhamento de arquivos online que virou a indústria musical – e, em seguida, a do entretenimento como um todo – do avesso.
Em certa passagem do filme, que só estreia no Brasil em dezembro, ele conversa com o personagem de Eisenberg (que vive o criador do Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg) sobre o potencial da rede social criada por ele. E, no meio do papo, cita que, embora todos envolvidos no Napster tenham sido processados e que o software tenha causado a fúria da indústria fonográfica, ele sim, mudou a forma como consumimos música. E pergunta, ironicamente, se alguém ainda entra em lojas de discos para comprar CD.
A ironia se desdobra ao lembrarmos que Justin é um dos principais vendedores de disco da mesma indústria que foi estilhaçada pelo MP3, formato de arquivo que o Napster estabeleceu como padrão para a música no início do século 21. Mas não deixa de ser importante que este tema venha a ser uma das principais questões discutidas – entre outras, bem mais severas – em um dos filmes que, certamente, será um dos mais vistos em 2010. E, como o próprio Mark após o papo com Sean, pode fazer o grande público pensar um tanto sobre este assunto.

Morreu o Rei do Pop e o mínimo que eu posso fazer é prestar duas homenagens: a primeira é essa, a herege, que fala do impacto do cara no cenário mundial, que bateu no hip hop, na dance music, na discoteca, na música eletrônica, inspirando covers, remixes e mashups. A próxima é mais santa – e aí eu toco músicas do cara em versão original. Mas essa requer cuidado – e talvez só apareça na segunda-feira. Por enquanto, aumente o volume e dance – com certeza o Michael queria ver todo mundo dançando, em vez de chorando.

Talvez fosse a deixa pra algum deles – ou todos – remixarem algo do Justin e aproveitar essa onda.

É o puro suco da Gente Bonita. O rapper T.I. faz uma ponta, mas nada que atrapalhe. Mas os falsetes Prince, o groove que faz a faixa parecer uma continuação melhorada de “My Love”, um refrão fácil sem ser populista – Justin tá vindo de volta. E, pelo jeito, vai longe.
